Our strategy.... is to become the only true compassionate conservatives. I'll bet you're choking, but I'm serious and I know it's ironic or maybe simply oriental. They are the phonies. We are the true compassionate conservatives and we should claim our true selves.
Think about it. Let's be genuine compassionate conservatives.
I've got 3 targets in mind.
1--Stripping the oil companies of their immoral profits while at the same time improving people's health and behavior, regardless of economic class.
We refuse to buy any new cars except FFVs and diesels, telling all our associates the loss they will suffer if they invest in standard cars with no flexibility;
We find and funnel the used FFVs and diesels from fleet auctions into selected regions near ethanol sources to create concentrations of vehicles that will form an attractive market for e85. Illinois already has a start that we can follow.
We switch to a 60% raw food diet, take our food production back into the home, from sprouting to fermenting to keeping a salad bar to bioregional nutritional medicine. Those raw foods are the opportunity for local growing and kitchen gardening, as well as implementing a diet shown to produce a healthy and long life. Women's work, to redirect our Conagra- and the Monsanto-ruined food industry to production of ethanol and biodiesel because their market for boxed/battered/mangled foods dries up with this step toward health.
2--Putting an end, once and for all, to the nukes and all their toxicity and horror.
Nukes and oil generate only 22% of our electric. It would be easy to cut our electric usage in half with consistent commitment to strategies that preserve comfort and simplicity and ease. Think how many oppose more nukes, how many don't want the waste in their area. Cutting the Residential Electric Use in half would cut Total Electric down just about enough. This reduction in dependence and guzzling should rock'em like real shock and awe, when there's no financial appeal to investing in new nukes. We can even add a layer of RECs (Renewable Energy Credits) to clearly signal to investors our demand for the right stuff.
The nuclear agenda fizzles and wind takes its role in a reasonable timetable later to replace the old nukes as they must be decommissioned. With no market for nukes in the energy world, the warfare role becomes ever less an opportunity for professional development, as well as less incentive for investment because there would be no potential for cross-fertilization with respectable energy, creating a brain-drain on the war train.
3--And last but not least, terminating the federal government's ability to make unending wars of aggression and to engage in corruption while at the same time we are strengthening our real freedom.
Most of our fellow justice activists care about some aspect of our social services, which neither government nor existing businesses provide. Some of those problems will go away with the improved diet, leaving the more intractible needing attention. Justice activists probably put in time, personal efforts and personal funds into what they see as solutions -- though some is wasted on attempting to convince govt and foundations to pick up the pieces. The latter can be redirected to double the former. These justice efforts are nascent new business ventures struggling to be born. Each would fill the vacuum where justice now flounders. If we can assist them in making those efforts legitimate businesses, through the launching process and the successive re-engineering of their plans and services to reach their desired results, we will both cut off the economic basis for financing wars and develop the structures to solve our justice problems, which will ultimately reduce the need for government to its minimum, where it can do no more damage in the service of corporate greed. We would in this way re-direct what would have been tax dollars spent on war and corporate welfare and pork barrel corruption, into business investing and compassionate experimenting in solving social justice problems, client by client.
We have a right as free economic actors to engange in whatever business ventures we see a market need for;
We have a duty to direct our tax dollars where we see problems unaddressed that are worth caring about.
For our personal wellbeing we need to be engaged in our life's work, the activism we care about. The ideal livelihood is work we would do simply because we care and enjoy it. Justice efforts are being treated as illegitimate children, claim them. They deserve to be claimed. They should have all the trappings of the business they should be.
As a business in the justice market, market research is needed. You do it now illegitimately calling it networking and event organizing. Do a business plan and put it in your budget as market research and do it as you see fit. Businesses need R&D for their products and service designs. You do it now but call it volunteer work or project support or even community services. Put it in your business' budget plan and do it as needed til you refine your business focus to a unique role and design, or maybe discover creative compensation deals as a special contractor. All businesses require periodic re-assessment and re-engineering to improve their product, operation and income potential, especially developing businesses, so every three years -- per IRS schedule -- revise your business plan, update your business name to match, update your financial plan as needed with the new concepts. There are online guides for writing a business plan and developing simple accounting to make taxtime easy. Get your spreadsheet and word processor into service and make your piece of justice legitimate. If you need help, join the Decision Analysis listserv (DA_net) at yahoo for shared consulting.
Don't expect to serve every need you see. Even big businesses with eons of history and custom know the value of target markets. Like the woman working in the shelters who eventually developed the idea of creating dolls that uniquely resembled her littlest abused clients so they would learn that they were lovable. You are developing an alternate compassionate economy. Your business is part of an infrastructure we have no clue of the size or shape it will grow to.
And finally the miscellaneous.
As we promote this growth of independent contractors and service providers, we will see the need for preparing our children for this life of independence and replace the old factory-model education system with cyber experiments in freedom to perpetuate the skills of creation of our own work.
Draw together your multigenerational family, whether natural or adopted, as your primary operational unit -- with boomers as your financial rock and repository of life history, with children as your culture-free light in the wilderness, with your young adults as your mobile strength.
By making more of our experience of wealth dependent on our personal efforts -- directly applied to our genuine needs and satisfactions -- we will make quality of life attainable by an empowered working class without risking those vulnerable, enhancing our real freedom from economic vulnerability. Our work is what creates wealth for others now, so by directing it to our own blueprints, the class war is won without further casualties, since the strategy is doable without regard to class.
By re-engineering our over-developed world to a sustainable model, we both provide our fellow residents on this planet with a better vision while we simultaneously restrain the money meddlers who push the oil drug and seduce the greedy.
To truly strengthen your freedom, make your moves with due circumspection and figuring; if you live in an apartment or have been lured into an excessive mortgage, focus on implementing food and energy upgrading while looking for land and researching doublewides and construction; if you currently work in a downsizing organization, you will be better prepared for the economics of transition if you're adopting this plan, as well as having advanced plans for target moves beyond immediate needs; and lastly, if you have no children in your household to provide more culture-free worldviews and calm survivor priorities, then get yourself a free cat to help you organize your thinking and implementation for a stable worldview while you re-engineer that world under your very feet.
